Istanbul/Montparnasse
Les Peintres Turcs de l’École de Paris

(Istanbul/Montparnasse, Turkish Painters of the Paris School)

Author: Clotilde Scordia
Preface by Annie Cohen-Solal

Following the Second World War, Paris was the city of art where artists converged from all over the world to join the Ecole de Paris (Paris Art School). All nationalities were represented, including Turkish artists. Paris discovered them through 2 exhibitions. The first was the Unesco International exhibition, and the second took place at the Cernuschi museum, where critics noted the “vitality of modern Turkish art”. The presence of these artists in Paris, and their contribution to the major events of the time, ensured their entry into the History of Art.
